Forty eight people were killed in Kenya, when dozens of extremists attacked a coastal town.

The attackers took advantage of those who couldn’t answer questions about Islam, and who didn’t know the Somali language. Soccer fans attempting to watch a World Cup match were shot, according to Reuters. Two hotels were set on fire.

“They came to our house at around 8 p.m. and asked us in Swahili whether we were Muslims. My husband told them we were Christians, and they shot him in the head and chest," said Anne Gathigi, according to the Associated Press.

It’s likely that the al-Qaida-linked terror group called Al Shabbab were responsible for the attacks. Shortly after, the difficult military surveillance planes were launched by Kenya’s National Disaster Operations Center. The terror group is based in Somalia, and they have vowed to carry out terror attacks to avenge the Kenyan military presence.

Authorities are indicating that there were about several dozen Mpeketoni attackers. Mpeketoni is 60 miles from the Somali border and 360 miles from Nairobi, the capital.

This wasn’t the only outbreak of violence in Kenya recently. In September, 67 people were killed when four Al Shabbab gunmen attacked an upscale area in Nairobi.
