It’s that time of year where dogs from all over go head to head in the World’s Ugliest Dog competition. This year, the award went to a 2-year-old dog named Peanut from North Carolina.
According to the Associated Press, the contest was held on June 20 in Petaluma, California and the winner belongs to owner Holly Chandler, who is from Greenville, North Carolina.
Chandler revealed that when Peanut was just a puppy, she suffered severe burns. She hopes the attention brought by the mutt will help to spread awareness in regards to animal abuse. She reportedly said, “We’re trying to use him as a poster child for what can happen to animals who are abused.”
The contest has been going on for 26 years and the dogs are judged in categories such as personality and natural ugliness.
E! News reported that Peanut might be a mix between a Chihuahua and a shih-tzu.
His owner won a prize of $1,500, which Chandler hopes to use for other people’s pets for their veterinary bills.
