Amazon announced on Wednesday that starting on July 25, the Amazon Fire Phone will be available for purchase, though it will require service through AT&T.
The first smartphone from Amazon will be priced at $199 or $649, depending on if purchased with a contract or not. The phone will feature 32 GB of memory, but there will also be a 64 GB model sold for $100 more.
While the Fire looks fairly similar in design to most touchscreen smartphones on the market now, Amazon boasts that their phone will be the only one to feature Dynamic Perspective and Firefly. The first feature will adjust what a user will see depending on the angle they are holding the phone.
The Firefly feature will be able to take QR codes, phone numbers, email addresses and more identified through the phone's camera and will be then translate to appropriate use on the Fire. The phone also has many of the features already in use through the Kindle Fire and the Android OS.
"Fire Phone puts everything you love about Amazon in the palm of your hand-instant access to Amazon's vast content ecosystem and exclusive features like the Mayday button, ASAP, Second Screen, X-Ray, free unlimited photo store, and more," Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos said.
Amazon's smartphone will feature the Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 2.2 GHz processor and 2 GB of RAM, along with a 4.7-inch HD display, 4G LTE and a 13 megapixel camera.
