Bill Condon, who directed Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 and Part 2, has been tapped by Disney to direct the studio's planned live-action Beauty and the Beast movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, it shouldn't be too surprising that Disney would like to bring another of its classic animated films back to the big screen as a live-action film.

They have seen success at the box office through live-action recreations of Alice in Wonderland and the Wizard of Oz, with a sequel for the latter in the works on top of a 2015 Jungle Book film in production, as well as a Cinderella film.

Disney's latest live-action Maleficent also did well at the box office during its opening weekend, where it grossed $170 million worldwide, with $70 million coming domestically.

Little is known about the project other than the film will be directed by Condon and that it will be based upon the animated 1991 film - which grossed $435 million worldwide. No release date has been announced.

Condon has also directed the recent Benedict Cumberbatch film The Fifth Estate and the musical Dreamgirls.
