The race for ‘Song of the Summer’ is official on! Billboard revived the seasonal chart that ranks the 10 best songs of the week during the summer time. Many will enter, but only one record will be the ‘Song of the Summer’.
Last summer, the crown went to Robin Thicke, T.I. and Pharrell for their history-making “Blurred Lines”, which was later named ‘Song of the Year’. Since its creation in 2008, Katy Perry won twice for and “I Kissed a Girl” (2008) and “California Girls” featuring Snoop Dogg (2010), The Black Eyed Peas owned the summer of ’09 with “I Gotta Feeling”, LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem” featuring Lauren Bennett and GoonRock took the victory in 2011 and the ridiculously catchy “Call Me Maybe” was 2012 ‘Song of the Summer’.
The first #1 song of the week is occupied by Iggy Azalea’s and Charlie XCX’s “Fancy”. Ariana Grande’s “Problem” and John Legend’s “All of Me” launched in the number two and three spot, respectively.
It’s still early to tell who will take the title for 2014, but Iggy seems like the most likely as she boast two singles in the top two. However, according to Time Magazine, Rita Ora, Lil Jon, Paramore, Betty Who and Clean Bandit might shake up the summer with a blockbuster hit.
