Bob Dylan’s ‘Like a Rolling Stone’ written lyrics were auctioned at Sotheby’s for over $2 million

On Tuesday, a working draft of Bob Dylan’s “Like A Rolling Stone” sold for over $2 million at Sotheby’s.

The draft’s final selling price was $2.045 million, including the buyer’s premium, according to the Associated Press.

It was announced in May that the item would be auctioned, according to Rolling Stone. It could bring $1 million to $2 million at auction. Sotheby’s says that it is the only known “surviving draft of the final lyrics for this transformative rock anthem.”

Many know the popular song. It has lyrics like, “How does it feel To be on your own" it says in his handwriting. "No direction home Like a complete unknown Like a rolling stone.”

The draft was written in pencil on “four sheets of hotel letterhead stationery with revisions, additions, notes, and doodles.”

Sotheby’s has held auction for similar items in the past. In 2010, Sotheby’s auctioned John Lennon's handwritten lyrics for "A Day in the Life," the final track on the Beatles' classic 1967 album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
