Frank Marshall, the producer for the “Bourne” movie series, has denied the rumors that Matt Damon will be returning as the titular Jason Bourne in the next film. Marshall was responding to the rumors that arose due to the film’s delay until 2016.
“It’s simply not true,” Marshall told The Hollywood Reporter. "[Director] Justin Lin is working with [writer] Andrew Baldwin on an Aaron Cross script/story that they pitched us a few months ago. I talk to Justin all the time and the script is not ready. It's a summer movie, and if we don't start preproduction now, we can't make next summer. Therefore, it's a wise decision to move to 2016." Aaron Cross, for the uninformed, is the character Jeremy Renner played in the 2012 film The Bourne Legacy.
The rumors of Damon’s return initially rose on Latino Review, and were reported by TheCelebrityCafe. As expressed by TheCelebrityCafe’s Will Ashton, Damon has expressed interest in returning to his role as Jason Bourne, but it turns out that this film will not see his return to the action franchise.
