A Connecticut mother was arrested for allowing her son to bring a hand grenade to school for a show-and-tell lesson.

According to NBC Connecticut, authorities arrested Lisa Miguel after her 11-year-old son brought the grenade to class.

Miguel told authorities that the grenade was a gift from her late father who was a war veteran. The 44-year also said that she thought it would be a good idea for her child to show it off to his classmates since that particular show-and-tell was World War II-related.

Faculty at Johnson Academy, however, did not think it was a good idea and the school had to be placed on lockdown while the bomb squad inspected the device.

The grenade was determined to be a simulator, which is used for training operations.

The state police said that such grenades can combust and cause injuries within a 20-foot radius.

Miguel has been charged with risk of injury to a minor, reckless endangerment and illegal possession of an explosive.
