A boy in Dayton, Ohio found a mummified body hanging inside a vacant home.
According to KSDK, the 12-year-old boy’s mother said that when her son stumbled across the unkempt house that looked to be abandoned, he ventured inside. However, the curious boy never thought that he would make such a horrific discovery.
"My son came home and he said to me that he had gone into an abandoned house and he found a body. And I said, 'Wait what?"' said Michelle McGrath. "When he first came across it, he thought it was a dummy, or a mannequin or something."
CNN noted that the mummified body is that of the homeowner, Edward Brunton, who was hanging from a rope in the closet.
Authorities suspect that the body was hanging there since 2009 and had not decomposed rapidly because it was in the closet, which kept animals and bugs away.
The corner said the condition of the body was leathery and skeletal and the man’s death appears to be a suicide.
