A judge ruled on Wednesday that the ailing former DJ Casey Kasem's medical decisions would remain with eldest daughter Kerri Kasem, who has decided to move him back into hospice care.
Kerri and her step-mother, Jean Kasem have been fighting over Kasem, who suffers from Lewy body disease, since the latter pulled him out of hospice care and tried to keep him from the rest of his family. Eventually, a court ruled that Kerri would have control and he was moved into a hospital in Washington in critical condition due to an infected bed sore.
Kerri eventually removed feeding and fluid tubes, saying her 82-year-old father was rejecting it, but Jean was able to get a judge to order Kasem remain on life support.
Well, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Daniel Murphy sided with Kerri and felt that keeping him on fluids and food wasn't helping him, reports Reuters. He also handed medical control back over to Kerri.
She decided to resume course - as per her father's health directive, with Kasem's kids saying in a statement, "Transitioning our father's treatment to comfort-oriented care was one of the hardest decisions we've ever had to make."
After the Murphy handed down his decision, Jean and her lawyer left in dramatic fashion, according to New York Daily News. "You have blood on your hands," she said before exiting the courtroom.
Steve Haney, her attorney, followed that up with, "You just imposed a death sentence."
