Among the biggest question marks of the summer was the Wachowski's Jupiter Ascending. Both in terms of its box office potential and its critical and audience response, the movie still seems like an uncertain mystery, and that is perhaps why Warner Bros. decided to delay the movie until February 6.
According to Variety, the film is being delayed so that the film can finish its extensive special effects, which was later confirmed by Deadline. As the movie was initially planning on a July 18 release, this news comes less than seven weeks before the movie was set to hit theaters.
Dan Fellman, the domestic distribution chief for Warner Bros., told Variety that “With the July release date, they were just not going to make it on time. A lot of the issue for us was getting it ready for the international release, since the foreign territories need additional time.”
Fellman also went on to note that the movie will be released about a year from when this year's The Lego Movie was released, which ended up being a huge hit, both financially and critically, for the studio. The exec also noted that the movie has been tested, in a rough form, in front of audiences.
To make room for this movie, Warner Bros. also pushed the Liam Neeson-starring Run All Night off the date and onto an unspecific time in 2015. This new release date sees the movie battling against the Johnny Depp-starring Mortdecai and the long-delayed The Seventh Son.
