24-year-old Andrea Mears has been charged with third-degree assault and breach of peace after a May 12 confrontation with a 17-year-old at Hammonasset Beach. She attacked the teenager who was flying a drone over the beach.

The Hartford Courant reports that a video showing the assault was posted to YouTube and LiveLeak this weekend. Haughwout took the video with his cell phone. The video shows Mears calling police and demanding that Haughwout stop using the drone. The camera then starts shaking and Haughwout yells that he is being assaulted. Mears allegedly called him a pervert, struck him, and ripped his shirt.

When police arrived, Haughwout showed them the video, and Mears was consequently arrested.

The Waterbury Republican America reports that Haughwout said, “When she first came up I though it was just someone calling the cops and I didn’t think she would attack me.”

Andrea Mears was charged for the confrontation on May 12. State Environmental Conservation Police released her so long as she agreed to appear in court. She is due back in New Haven Superior Court June 19.
