A canal in Mexico where a young girl drowned more than 50 years ago continues to attract tourists.
Isla de la Munecas, the Island of the Dolls, was created by Don Julian Santana.
According to Atlas Obscura, the man left his wife and children to move on to the island where a young girl accidentally drowned.
To remember the young girl, Don Julian Santana began stringing up dolls, and even kept his own cabin filled as well.
Don Julian dedicated his life to collecting the lost dolls, which he found from the canals and trash around the island.
Locals claim the place is haunted by the girls spirit, who alleged haunted the artist as well, reported the Daily Mail.
It is also said that the first doll the artist found was possessed by the dead girl’s spirit.
Ironically, in 2001 Don Julian Santana died in the same canal where the young girl drowned.
More dolls have been added to the island over the years.
