A house left partially dangling over Lake Whitney in Texas was set on fire on Friday with consent of the homeowner.
The cliff near the house began crumbling back in February and over the following months, more and more of the ground continued to erode away until part of the house was left dangling 75 feet in the air above the lake, reports Reuters.
It was condemned two weeks ago and the nearly $800,000 house was abandoned by the homeowner, who had purchased the home with his retirement savings.
Since the house was slowly coming apart and would eventually fall into the lake, it was decided the best option would be to burn the house in order to reduce the amount that would end up in the lake.
Rob Webb, who bought the 6-year-old house in 2012, spoke with WFAA and noted how surreal the situation is. "It's like, 'Is that really my home? Or is that something else that you're watching on TV?' And then you're like, 'Good grief, that is my home.'"
On top of losing the expensive home, Webb will have to pay for the demolition cost and discovered that his home insurance doesn't cover earth movement.
