Since 2006's Inland Empire, writer/director David Lynch's distinct vision has been notably absent from the big screen, but actress Laura Dern, his frequent star, has said in a recent interview that that may soon be changing.
When talking to Digital Spy, as part of her promotional material for The Fault in Our Stars, Dern enthusiastically revealed that Lynch is definitely working on a film of some sort. Of course, she couldn't clarify what point of the process the project is at for the moment.
Her full quote goes as follows:
"I will be working with David Lynch when I'm 80. He is cooking, he's cooking up trouble, and I will be part of that trouble. He's the consummate renaissance man, he just makes art wherever he can get his hands on it. But film, ultimately, I know is his great love, and I think he will always circle back to it. He's definitely cooking."
Dern has worked with Lynch three times in the past, including Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart and the aforementioned Inland Empire.
While Lynch may not be working on feature films, that is not to say that he hasn't been keeping himself busy, as he has been keeping his fingers in a variety of different pies. One of those pies, oddly enough, happens to be his own brand of coffee, titled David Lynch Signature Cup, which he talked about with Munchies.
Beyond that, Lynch has kept himself busy working on music and other forms of art. But, as Dern noted, film is his first love, so expect to see the title card "Written and Directed by David Lynch" on the big screen again sometime soon.
In addition to Faults, playing in theaters now, Dern will also soon be seen in films like When the Game Stands Tall, Wild, 99 Homes and Strings later this year. She is currently filming a role in Mother's Day.
