David Michod’s new film, The Rover, will open this Friday in theaters after having its premiere at Cannes.
The film takes place ten years after a global economic collapse. Joel Edgerton and David Michod wrote the film, set in the Australia. Robert Pattinson stars in the film as Rey, and Guy Pearce stars as Eric.
"I realized when I was writing it that I was projecting onto Guy's character a lot of the anger and despair I felt about the state of the world, the fact that bankers could destroy economies and then get away with it," says Michod, according to the Associated Press.
Michod further discussed Australia and what it is like to deal with the difficult economic times. In talking about the wide income gap between the elite and the underclass, Michod thinks that a gap in income creates a “crippling of the middle class,” according to Screencrush.
Michod is known for his work on the film, Hesher and Animal Kingdom. For Animal Kingdom, Michod won Best Direction in a Feature Film.
