Former vice president Dick Cheney and his daughter Liz Cheney are forming a grassroots group, “Alliance for a strong America”, after recently rebuking president Obama for his foreign policy decisions.
In a Wall Street Journal opinion piece, both Cheney’s speak out against the way Obama has handled matters overseas in the Middle East and are outraged at how he is dealing with the current Iraq crisis. The two claim that while Obama has promised to take care of the situation, he has failed to keep his promises to America and to Iraq. While the two visited the Middle East earlier this past spring, they claim that the people from the Persian Gulf and Israel asked questions such as, "Can you please explain what your president is doing?" "Why is he walking away?" "Why is he so blithely sacrificing the hard fought gains you secured in Iraq?" "Why is he abandoning your friends?" "Why is he doing deals with your enemies?"
The Cheney’s also fear for the safety of America because they claim that while the violence continues, Obama enjoys himself playing golf and speaking about climate change. They believe that he is “unaware, or indifferent to the fact, that a resurgent al Qaeda presents a clear and present danger to the United States of America.” As a result, the Cheneys have taken matters into their own hands and hope that their new grassroots group will make a difference.
According to The New York Daily News, The Cheneys introduced their grassroots group on Wednesday. The group’s mission is to keep America free and to renew America’s strength after national security failures from the Obama administration.
The Senate majority leader Harry Reid ridiculed the grassroots group and stated that Dick Cheney should be the last person anyone would consult when it comes to wars. No word on how the group plans to execute its mission.
