On Tuesday, the news was released that writer/director Shane Black (Iron Man 3), a man who was involved with the production of the original film, was going to be writing a treatment and likely directing an upcoming reboot of the Predator. However, it appears that the information released was a bit skewed, as the movie will actually be more of a sequel than it will be a reboot.
When speaking to Collider, Black revealed that, due to the mythology that is layered out in the series, the movie will be more of a semi-sequel than it will be a complete reboot.
"Why start over, when you’ve all this rich mythology yet to mine," was his direct quote to the blog on the matter. Black also added that he doesn't care for reboots, but he can "really get behind inventive sequels." Which means that he and his writing partner Fred Dekker don't exactly want to hit the reset button.
Other than these comments, Black doesn't quite have much more to add to the conversation that wasn't already said in the original report, but at least this sets things straight for fans. With that, it would seem that Black and his crew have something interesting up their sleeves for the new Predator movie.
