As the landscape inspiration for Disney’s hit film Frozen, Norway is currently undergoing a noticeable rise in tourists eager to see the country for themselves.
“We noticed a huge increase from the U.S. already in November and December last year, just after we started our marketing with Disney in October,” Harald Hansen, the U.S. spokesman for Visit Norway, said, according to Fox News. Booked hotels increased 37% this year over the same time period last year, and tour operators saw a 40% sales increase.
The art director for the film, Michael Giaimo, researched Norway and used the Norwegian coastline and Bergen as inspiration for the fictional kingdom of Arendelle.
Adventures by Disney put together a holiday package that involves a trip to Norway and includes a visit to Bergen with fjord trips, trout fishing, folk dancing, and other region-specific activities, according to The Guardian. The trip costs $5 thousand a person.
In 2015, Disney Cruise Lines plans to add a Norway itinerary.
