Disney actress Zendaya Coleman has been tapped to star in a Lifetime biopic of the late R&B singer Aaliyah.
The television movie will be based off Christopher Farley's book Aaliyah: More Than a Woman, reports HitFix. Michael Elliot adapted the book for screenplay.
The film will follow the singer's life from when she started off as a 10-year-old contestant on Star Search before finding success ahead of her death in a plane crash.
The biopic, currently titled Aaliyah: Princess of R&B will be helmed by Turn the Beat Around director Bradley Walsh.
Lifetime managed to secure the song rights for four tracks, which 17-year-old Coleman will sing during the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Coleman, who is mostly known for appearing on the popular Dancing With the Stars and the Disney Channel series Shake It Up!, also is a fledgling recording artist. She released her first album last year and her single has managed to sell over 1 million copies.
The Lifetime biopic will be executive produced by Debra Martin Chase and Howard Braunstein, with Aaliyah Productions Inc. producing.
