Another day, another Hollywood star is using a crowd-funding site to bring together funds for their passion project. This time, it's Don Cheadle, as he has just launched an Indiegogo page in order to support his long-in-development feature directorial debut, the Miles Davis-biopic Miles Ahead.
Previously titled Kill the Trumpet Player, Cheadle launched the page late yesterday and will be keeping the page running up to his cut-off point on July 10th at 11:59 p.m.
Unlike many stars, however, Cheadle's aspirations on the site seem rather grounded, as he is only holds a $325,000 goal. As of this time, he has earned just a little under $9,000, or roughly 3 percent of the money he desires.
The film will center on Davis on a few dangerous days in his life, when he busted out of his silent period to conspire with a Rolling Stone writer to help him steal back his music. With that in mind, it would seem that Cheadle is envisioning more of a period-in-time biopic than a straight-forward life story.
In addition to directing, Cheadle will also be playing Davis, and has also roped in Ewan McGregor to play the Rolling Stone writer. At one point in time, Zoe Saldana was set to play Davis' wife, Frances, but it is unclear at the moment if she is still attached to the project.
Cheadle has secured the support of the Davis family, and has found a way to get Herbie Hancock working on the movie's music. Additionally, Cheadle is also grabbing some contemporary musicians to make some music for his picture. If this is successful, the plan is to have cameras rolling this summer.
On the page, Cheadle made a video talking about the project and telling people what people can get if they contribute to the movie:
