The countdown is on until Ed Sheeran will release his sophomore album X and Sheeran is sharing another single off the album with fans as he released his music video for “One.” This single exquisitely tells the story of the hope for a love to return because after life has gone on they are the only one.
“One” only features vocals from Sheeran and an acoustic guitar, which is why this video is the perfect companion to the emotional track. This video is not showy; it is not over the top. In one word, this video is beautiful. This single is a huge contrast compared to the upbeat first single, “Sing,” off the upcoming album, but this provides fans a sampling of what else they might hear on it.
The video features Sheeran and his guitar playing alone on an empty stage in a large arena. The video does feature a few cut-away shots to empty hallways and the audience can hear Sheeran’s voice echoing in the background. These cut away shots leave fans wondering if Sheeran is really the only one in the arena during his performance.
“One” was also shot in black and white, which helps fans to focus on performance and the lyrics of the song, there is no distractions and the cinematography is simple. Nothing no the production scale for this music video is over the top or overstated.
Sheeran has been the breakout artist of the past few years. He is incredibly talented, will only record his music with his own musical vision, and now has a fan following that extends across many countries. His music is refreshing in an industry that features dub-step beats and over-the-top production. Sheeran has returned to basics with this single and proves that just a guitar and honest emotion is all he needs to capture the attention of fans everywhere.
