A young child was killed when a metal security door fell on her in Philadelphia on Saturday.
According to Reuters, the 3-year-old girl, Wynter Larkin, was with her mother at a Rita’s Italian ice when the security door detached from the building and fell on the child.
The girl was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.
An annual fundraiser for two fraternities was happening when the incident took place.
Witnesses at the scene said the heard the crash, and saw the little girl trapped underneath the door, reported CBS News.
Tracey Stanford, one of the witnesses, saw the horror unfold.
“We saw the awning land on the ground, but we didn’t realize there was a baby under the awning until the mother started screaming. We heard a boom, and all you could hear was yelling and screaming,” Stanford said.
Police are still investigating the situation.
“Our hearts and prayers go to the child’s family. Due to the current investigation, we cannot really comment on that unfortunate incident,” said a statement released by the parent company of the Rita’s store where the incident took place.
