Those fans looking forward to seeing the new Bourne star Jeremy Renner returning to his role as Aaron Cross will have to wait a little longer than they initally planned, as Universal Studios has decided to relocate Bourne 5 release date to July 15, 2016.
/Film covered the date change earlier today. No word has been released as to why the sequel, directed by Justin Lin (Fast and Furious 6), has been moved back from its original August 14, 2015 release at this time.
In fact, beyond the fact that Renner is returning and Lin is directing, little is known about the film as well. Perhaps Universal needed to plan the movie out more than they originally expected, or maybe the onslaught of movies coming out in 2015 made them worried that their new action sequel won't stand a chance.
Regardless, Bourne 5 is no squaring off against another fifth film in a series, Ice Age 5. The new Bourne movie joins Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Ben Affleck's adaptation of Live By Night as movies that have gotten the push from their cozy 2015 release dates to 2016.
