Months before X-Men: Days of Future Past was released, it seemed like a no-brainer that director Bryan Singer would return to make the follow-up film X-Men: Apocalypse. But, following the highly publicized sexual allegations directed Singer's way, it was unclear whether Singer would still be Fox's number one choice. But, despite this, it appears that the studio still wants the man for their upcoming film.
When talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Emma Watts, the president of Fox, said she still wanted Singer to come back, saying "It’s always been the intention for him to do it. Right now we are totally at the outlining phase. But nothing would make me happier than if it all worked out. It’s always been the intention for him to do it.”
When asked why she wanted him back, she stated that "the management of the franchise," a.k.a Singer's direction, was what has made the series worked, especially with X-Men: Days of Future Past. “[A] big part of it was getting Bryan back [as director]," were her words exactly.
With the director being accused of sexual molesting a minor in 1999 back in April, just a month before the latest X-Men movie was released, Singer decided to back away from any publicity and events with the new film, including its premiere. With that in mind, earlier this month, Radar Online ran a report saying that Fox was considering dropping him from the project, believing the time spend defending himself would hurt their bottom line.
While these comments are not a stone-cold confirmation that he is still on the film, considering how favorable they are, suggest that they are at least going to try to get Singer to still work on the film, if he can.
