Fans of the music from Disney’s Frozen will want to plan a trip to San Diego. The Oscar-winning songwriting team Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez have a new musical, which has just found producers. The production will premiere at San Diego’s La Jolla Playhouse.
Up There will be directed by Alex Timbers, who helmed Broadway’s Rocky and the Off-Broadway production Here Lies Love, reports Variety. The new production will be backed by Scott Sanders Theatrical Productions, Victor Alvarez and Sally Horchow International Productions.
“Bobby Lopez, Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Alex Timbers are the new musical theatre rock stars of this generation,” La Jolla Playhouse Artistic Director Christopher Ashley said in a statement to Broadwayworld. “We're tremendously excited to collaborate with them on developing this extraordinarily witty and wonderful piece that taps into the zeitgeist of Millennials everywhere.”
Up There is about ordinary guy Dan and his attempt to have a relationship with Lindsay, if his own mind doesn’t get in the way.
Lopez and his wife, Anderson-Lopez, won an Oscar for Frozen’s “Let It Go,” which meant Lopez joined the elite EGOT club. He won Tonys for his work on The Book of Mormon and Avenue Q.
Opening night for Up Here hasn’t been set.
