A recent poll done by Gallup Politics demonstrated that less than 10 percent of U.S. citizens have confidence in the Congress institution, while they highly trust other institutions such as the police and military.
According to The Gallup Politics Poll, American confidence in Congress is the lowest it’s ever been, and it is also lowest approval rate Gallup has ever recorded for any institution. Four percent of Americans have a “great deal” of confidence in Congress, while only three percent say they have “quite a lot” making the total approval rate only seven percent The poll also showed that one in three Americans have some sort of confidence in the institution, while half have little confidence in it. Seven percent of Americans stated that they have absolutely no confidence in Congress.
Americans have expressed higher confidence in the other two branches of the government, but their approval rates in those institutions are still 30 percent or less. 30 percent of Americans selected that they either had a “great deal” or “quite a lot” of confidence in the judicial system and 29 percent of Americans selected that they feel that way about the executive branch, according to USA Today.
On the contrary, Americans demonstrated that they are most confident in the military, with a 74 percent approval rate. Small businesses were voted the second most trusted at 62 percent, and the police was the third most trusted institution at 53 percent.
The Gallup poll has been measuring American confidence in its institutions for 41 years now. The military has been the no.1 trusted entity nearly every year since 1989. The low approval rate of Congress may be linked to the fact that less than 10 percent of Americans believe that Congress is ethical.
