George R.R. Martin, the author of the A Song of Ice and Fire books that HBO’s Game of Thrones is based on, has finally joined Twitter. However, don’t expect him to live-tweet while he’s writing, since he still uses a computer without the Internet.

On Monday, Martin began his Twitter page, writing, “I don't tweet all that much, please check out my live journal page. 😉 #myfirstTweet.”

According to TheWrap, publisher Random House has confirmed that this account really is Martin. “Are you following a #GRRM impersonator? We can officially announce that @GRRMspeaking is the real deal (though he won't be tweeting much),” the publisher tweeted.

Martin definitely will not be tweeting while he’s writing the next book in his saga of Westeros. As he explained on Conan last month, he writes using a DOS computer and the WordStar 40 program. He explained that he doesn’t want a spell checker getting in the way or any distractions.

The account was also launched shortly after Martin began a contest to raise money for Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary and The Food Depot of Santa Fe. If you spend $20,000, you could be written into a Song of Ice and Fire book and later be killed off.

Game of Thrones' fourth season ends on Sunday.
