A Georgia man was charged with felony murder and first-degree child cruelty after he left his 22-month-old son outside in his vehicle all day.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, 33-year-old Justin Ross Harris is currently being held in jail without bond. His young son was said to be strapped in his car seat in the SUV during the hot summer day.
"Said accused did leave a 22-month-old juvenile male unattended and strapped into a child car seat in a parked vehicle for approximately seven hours during daytime hours after which the child was found deceased," the arrest warrant said.
The Marietta resident claims that he forgot that his son was still in the car all that time, reports the Los Angeles Times. The temperature on Wednesday was 88 degrees.
The boy was in the car while Harris went to work and it wasn't until he reached the Akers Mill Square shopping center later in the day that he realized his son was still in the car. The young child was pronounced dead at the scene and Harris was arrested after fighting with officers.
"He was very vocal, he was physical with officers and he had to be restrained," Cobb County Police Sgt. Dana Pierce said.
