Girl Meets World debuted on Friday night to strong ratings for the Disney Channel, but was beaten by the network's new movie Zapped.

The new show that follows Cory and Topanga's daughter premiered to 5.2 million viewers, which was good enough to be the best launch to a series in the youth demographics for this years, the Los Angeles Times reports.

While that is a good start for the series that returns many familiar faces from Boy Meets World, including Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel, it was beaten by Zendaya Coleman's Zapped. The Disney Channel film drew 5.7 million viewers as it aired ahead of Girl.

As previously reported, Disney was looking towards the show to help the network's flagging ratings. The network continues to be the top cable network for girls 6 to 14, but overall numbers have fallen by 20 percent from last year.

The pressure for the show to do well is obvious to those working on the new show, with Girl Meets World creator Michael Jacobs noting, "We feel a crushing weight on our heads."
