Godzilla has now brought its total up to $440 million at the global box office this weekend. The debut in China helped the monster feature film to pass through the $400 million mark. Godzilla made $36 million during its opening weekend in China.

Variety reported that the film also set a record for Warner Bros. studio in China. Godzilla opened on 9,000 screens and now has the best opening record for a Warner Bros. feature in China.

Godzilla was right behind a few other major films that debuted in China and had huge opening weekends including; X-Men: Days of Future Past which made $39.35 million and Captain America: The Winter Soldier which made $39.23 million.

It had been reported that in order for the film to break even, it would need to make over $380 at the box office worldwide.

IBT added that the film also set another record in China. Godzilla is now the largest one day opening in China with $10.9 million.

The film only has one more major location to open in and that is where the monster legend began, Japan. Godzilla will be released in Japan on July 15th.

Godzilla stars Bryan Cranston, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
