Google is currently working on a new health service called Google Fit that will sync information from various health applications and wearable devices.
It is rumored that Google Fit will track various health indicators, such as weight, heart rate, run times, and body building stats, as reported by Forbes. Future users of Google Fit should expect to link their Google Fit account to their Google IDs, and be able to pull up their health data wherever they are.
Unfortunately for Google, there will be competition in the health technology arena.
Apple announced its own new health tracking system called HealthKit on June 2 in the iOS 8 presentation. HealthKit will be able to share data with other apps, such as a physician app, which will allow users to transfer data quickly and easily to their providers.
Dr. John Noseworthy, president and CEO of Mayo Clinic, believes that “Apple’s HealthKit will revolutionize how the health industry interacts with people.”
Google Fit is Google’s second attempt at a health service, the first—“Google Health”—having failed in 2008, according to Tech Crunch.
