A suburban Pittsburgh woman was attacked by a red-tailed hawk while she washed her car in her driveway over the weekend.

According to KDKA, Eileen Bridge said she never saw the bird coming.

"It came up and it blind-sided me, it just hit me."

Bridge said the force the bird hit her with felt like a baseball bat.

Neighbors who heard her screams and ran over to help said that she was knocked out cold for a moment.

WTAE reported that Bridge suffered lacerations to her face and scalp and was taken to a nearby hospital. Once there, she had to receive a head scan to make sure that she did not have a concussion.

Bridge had noticed the hawk family’s nest in a tree about 70 feet above the ground before, but never though that one of the birds would actually become so violent and attack her.

A red-tailed hawk is a bird of prey, commonly found in North America. Because they are so common, they usually live in close proximity to humans without any issues. However, the over-aggressive bird that attacked Bridge will be relocated.
