Three high school students accepted their teacher’s request for a ride. However, things went downhill when the teacher held the students at knife point.
According to the Associated Press, the three male students were driving on Saturday night when they saw the teacher standing on a corner.
Once the teacher, 34-year-old John Edward Maust, was in the car, he ordered the students at knife point to take him to a fast food restaurant.
As they were driving, one of the students was able to dial the police.
The students were able to escape when the driver pulled over. Maust also fled the car.
In the afternoon the next day, Maust surrendered himself at the police department.
He faces criminal charges such kidnapping, false imprisonment, and criminal threats, The Daily Mail reported.
The students said that Maust appeared drunk when he asked them for a ride.
Maust is a teacher at Arroyo Pacific Academy in Southern California.
