Lazaretto, the new solo album from guitarist Jack White, got its chart life off to a good start this past week, topping the Billboard 200 album chart. Notably, a significant chunk of its debut sales came from the vinyl release.
The success of Lazaretto means that White is two-for-two in his solo career so far. As Billboard points out, Blunderbuss also topped the chart and sold almost the exact same number of copies. Nielsen SoundScan numbers show that both albums sold roughly 138,000 copies in their first week.
White also got his fans to buy vinyl copies of the album thanks to some exclusive material. The vinyl release sold 40,000 copies, breaking the Vinyl albums chart sales record easily. Interestingly, the music business is in such a sad state that if the vinyl release was considered its own album, it would have debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 overall.
Miranda Lambert’s Platinum took a dive after topping the chart last week, selling just 62,000 copies in the past week. The Frozen soundtrack (50,000 copies), Just As I Am by Brantley Gilbert (40,000) and The Fault in Our Stars soundtrack (38,000) made up the rest of the Top 5.
The bottom half of the Top 10 includes Now 50 (34,000); Turn Blue from The Black Keys (26,000); Michael Jackson’s Xscape (25,000); and Now That’s What I Call Country 7 (22,000).
The Digital Songs Chart is still dominated by Iggy Azalea. “Fancy” is at No. 1 with 226,000 downloads and Ariana Grande’s “Problem,” which features the rapper, is at No. 3 with 186,000. MAGIC’s “Rude” is No. 2 with 207,000 downloads.
