JetBlue has been forced to apologize to a Newton, Massachusetts mother after her young daughter was embarrassed by a flight attendant who refused to allow her to use the bathroom. The 3-year-old ended up urinating in her seat and was in tears.

Back on Friday, WBZ-TV reported that Jennifer Devereaux and her daughter Summers were flying from New York to Boston. The flight was delayed on the tarmac and after a half hour of waiting, Summers really needed to use the restroom.

Devereaux said that the attendant snapped at her and refused to let her daughter go to the bathroom. Her daughter urinated in her seat and, as Devereaux got up to clean the mess, the attendant yelled again.

“And I said, ‘please give me a break. My daughter had an accident because you wouldn’t let me take her to the bathroom. After I clean it up I will sit down,’” Devereaux recalled. “She turned around and reported it to the pilot.”

The pilot turned the plane around and said there was a passenger not following instructions. She was supposed to leave the plane, but an off-duty pilot on the flight supported her and she was allowed to stay.

“I am so thankful for him and other passengers sticking up for my family’s defense,” she told WBZ.

According to WCVB, Devereaux said she filed an online complaint with JetBlue and got a $50 credit, but no apology.

However, on Monday, JetBlue did apologize, WBZ reported. The company agreed to also make a $5,000 donation to a charity of her choice.

“I am so happy this all turned around for the good,” Devereaux said. “They said they will be doing some sensitivity training with the crew and some teaching about how to work better with children.”
