Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Ron Perlman have joined the cast of Roland Emmerich's gay rights film Stonewall.
According to Deadline, Joey King also was brought on board the project, which stars Jeremy Irvine, with Jonny Beauchamp and Caleb Landry co-starring. Others in the cast include Vlademir Alexis, Alexandre Nachi and Karl Glusman.
Stonewall is set in 1969 and revolves around a police raid on the Greenwich Village Stonewall Inn, which help galvanize the gay rights movement. Irvine will play Danny Winters who finds himself homeless in New York after his parents kick him out.
He ends up at the Stonewall Inn where he meets Meyers' character of Danny and also runs into Perlman's character, who is the manager of the Inn who takes advantage of the young people who end up at his Inn. Despite colluding with police, the Inn is eventually raided, which sparked a riot.
Stonewall is set for a July 1, 2016 theatrical release.
Emmerich is also working on the two Independence Day sequels, ID Forever Part 1 and Part II. He also recently signed on to direct a reboot Stargate trilogy with his original partner Dean Devlin.
