Dozens of people suffered injuries on Thursday when a ceiling collapsed in a residential neighborhood in Katy, Texas during a celebration.

Tim Thomas, West I-10 Fire Department spokesman, told The Associated Press that the ceiling collapsed while about 100 people were gathered in a Houston suburb.

One person suffered a serious injury, while nearly 30 others were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment of more minor injuries.

According to Click2Houston, the ceiling was the top part of a two-story detached garage and people on both levels suffered injuries.

"Well I was just in the house behind it and they were playing a bunch of loud music and it sounded like the roof collapsed," a neighbor said.

A triage tent was set up on the front lawn of the house by firefighters as they tried to handle to roughly 110 injured in the accident. HFD said that most of the injuries consisted of cuts and bruises, while some of the more serious ones were blunt force trauma.
