Writer and director of 'Looper', Rian Johnson, will write and direct the eighth film of the Star Wars series.

According to The Wrap, Johnson will also write the treatment for Episode IX.

Johnson made his directorial debut with Brick, a high-school drama that costed $500,000 to make. He moved up a little with his second film, The Brothers of Bloom, starring Mark Ruffalo and Adrien Brody. Johnson eventually ascended to Looper, the hit sci-fi film riddled with time travel, which established the director's growth into a new style.

The Looper writer has also directed some of the most acclaimed episodes of Breaking Bad, the hit T.V. series of cancer, wealth, family and meth, of course.

The Wrap also says that Disney plans to do spinoffs of the main series, releasing a new Star Wars movie every year starting in 2015. Among those set to do such side films are Godzilla director Gareth Edwards and Chronicle director Josh Trank. Episode VII, which is now filming, is set to release in 2015, when Disney will then alternate between spinoffs and episodes every year.

This story has more to develop as we wait for it to be made official by Disney.
