First-daughter Malia Obama has stepped out of The White House and onto the production lot. Last week, the 15-year-old spent a day in Los Angeles working as a production assistant on the set of the new CBS sci-fi television series Extant, produced by Steven Spielberg.

An on-set insider told The Wrap that Malia helped, “With computer shop alignments and the director also let her slate a take.” According to New York Daily News, The President and First Lady flew into California on Friday and spent the weekend in Palm Springs with Malia. Their younger daughter, 13-year old Sasha, did not accompany them.

While Malia’s time on set with Steven Spielberg might be news, her love of filmmaking is not. In a profile of President Obama for The New Yorker in January, Malia was revealed to be an aspiring filmmaker and a fan of the HBO Original Series Girls.

The series Extant stars Halle Berry and is set to premiere on July 9.
