Man’s stolen car found three decades later

A 1979 Corvette was found and returned to the owner when it went missing in 1981.

George Talley had always been a fan of Corvette, and was devastated when his own was stolen, reported WXYZ-TV.

“I made a police report, and I haven’t seen it since July of 1981,” Talley said.

Talley did not forget his car, and was in for a surprise when he received a phone call telling him that it had been found.

"I was sitting at home last Friday looking at Judge Mathis, and I get a call from AAA telling me you have a Corvette in Mississippi, come and get it. And, uh… I said, ‘what?’” Talley said.

A nationwide database of stolen vehicles was used to flag Talley missing Corvette, reported Yahoo Autos.

The car’s engine was partially disassembled and interior ripped, but still had 47,000 miles.

Mark Reuss, head of vehicle development for General Motors, offered to cover the shipping costs to get the car from Mississippi to Detroit.

Reuss also covered the repair costs for the vehicle.

Talley man was anxious to drive his car.

“When I get that car here in that driveway, we’ll go from there.”
