Authorities said that a manhunt is underway for a gunman who opened fire and killed three Canadian police officers and injured two others on Wednesday.
According to CBC, the terror unfolded when the suspect, identified as Justin Bourque, opened fire on Royal Canadian Mounted Police in the town of Moncton in New Brunswick.
Constable Damien Theriault spoke to reporters and confirmed the three deaths and injuries.
"Two of our officers were also injured, but their lives are not threatened at this time," he said.
CNN noted that because the suspect is considered armed and dangerous, residents in the neighborhood where the shootings occurred were told to stay indoors while the manhunt continued.
RCMP also warned residents that if they see the gunman not to approach him, but to contact authorities.
The 24-year-old suspect was last seen Wednesday evening dressed in army fatigues and carrying a rifle. Law enforcement said he could have several other weapons.
As of Thursday morning, he remains at large.
