With his recent Oscar win, actor Matthew McConaughey likely has more than a few possibilities in his hands now as far as what he could choose as his next acting project. With that in mind, it would seem that returning to his character Dallas in Magic Mike may not be among his first priorities, as recent talk suggests that McConaughey will not be back for its sequel, Magic Mike XXL.

McConaughey's possible exclusion from Magic Mike XXL came about when comedian and fellow Magic Mike star Gabriel Iglesias (who played DJ Tobias) let the suggestion slip in his interview with Dish Nation. When teasing the new movie, he also let it be known that, "Word has it that Matt’s probably not gonna be involved, because he’s worth a lot of money now — that whole Oscar thing.” He also jokingly added, "the nerve, right?" soon after.

Now, of course, this is not an official confirmation, but considering that Iglesias is working on the film, there is a good chance that what he is saying is true. Since production is still a couple months away at least, there is still the possibility that they may reel McConaughey back in, if even for an extended cameo. As of now, however, this does not seem like the case.

As suggest before, and continued through Iglesias' comments here, Magic Mike XXL will see the characters hitting the road. Directing this time is Gregory Jacobs instead of Steven Soderbergh, who directed the last movie. Although Soderbergh is not helming this installment, he will still be heavily involved, as it was revealed this time last month (literally!) that he will be working on the movie as the editor, cinematographer and camera operator.

Magic Mike XXL is set to hit theaters on July 3, 2015. While McCounghey may not be seen in that film, he will be seen in Christopher Nolan's Interstellar on November 7. Iglesias, meanwhile, has his own stand-up film, The Fluffy Movie, going into theaters on July 11, and will soon in heard in animated movies like Planes: Fire and Rescue and The Book of Life later this year.
