The Nest isn’t about former Saturday Night Live stars coming home for a reunion, but it may as well be. Maya Rudolph is joining the Universal comedy, which already has Amy Poehler and Tina Fey on board.
The new film stars everyone’s favorite Golden Globe hosts (Fey and Poehler) as sisters who learn that their parents plan to sell the childhood home. So, they decide to plan one last big party at the house. Paula Pell, a former SNL writer, penned the script. Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) is directing.
Back in April, the studio decided to schedule the film for Dec. 18, 2015 as the ultimate counterprogramming to Star Wars: Episode VII.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rudolph will make this film first, then move on to The Greens are Gone, an indie project that also has Catherine Keener. It will be written and directed by Peer Pedersen.
Rudolph, who recently appeared in Bridesmaids, was on SNL from 2000-2007, overlapping with Fey’s and Poehler’s years on the show.
