Mexican law enforcement helicopter mistakenly fires at U.S. border agents

A Mexican law enforcement helicopter accidentally crossed the U.S. border on Thursday and fired a couple shots close to U.S. Border Patrol agents.

U.S. law enforcement officials said that this is the second time so far this year, where Mexican authorities crossed the border, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The first incident occurred in January, when two Mexican soldiers pulled their guns on two Border Patrol agents found near the border in Arizona. Neither incidents resulted in any injuries.

The helicopter was being used to track a drug operation when it accidentally crossed into U.S. territory in Southern Arizona. Mexican officials have since apologized for the incident saying that it was all a "mistake."

According to CNN, the U.S. agents did not fire on the helicopter, which swiftly realized it was no longer in the correct country and turned back around.

The anti-drug operation managed to net law enforcement nearly 45 arrests. Those picked up were attempting to slip across the border.
