Is a reunion in the cards for Midnight Oil? Drummer Rob Hirst says that members of the Australian rock band are ready and eager to reunite for a tour but the hold up appears to be with front man Peter Garrett.

In an interview with Faster Louder, Hirst explained that the delay of the reunion became held up because of Garrett's work on his most recent book.

"Peter [Garrett]’s writing his memoirs at the moment so that might take a while, but I think everyone’s up for it. Bonesy’s [Bones Hillman, bass] living in Nashville, and by all accounts playing better than ever – the callouses on his fingers must be enormous by now! And of course Martin [Rotsey], Jim [Moginie] and I all play in The Break, so everyone’s around. We’ll just see down the track. Hopefully it won’t be so long that we won’t be able to put on the sort of show that we’d like to put on," detailed Hirst.

AP reported that Hirst quit the band back in 2002. After he left the band he turned his focus to federal politics. He became a Cabinet minister in the previous Labor Party government.
