A small plane crashed into a home in Sauk Rapids, Minneapolis, leaving two people in the plane dead while a resident of the home managed to escape.
According to NBC News, the accident occurred after 8 pm on Friday night when the private aircraft crashed into the home. The fire department had assistance from a nearby fire department in order to put out the fire, which had reportedly been labeled as fierce.
A statement from the Sauk Rapids Police Department said “The victims have were recovered from the residence and the Benton County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an investigation into the cause of death.”
In addition, it was reported in the statement an investigation would be conducted by the FAA and National Transportation and Safety Board to find out what caused the plane crash.
The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported the homeowner, Jeffrey Hille, said while his wife was not at the residence, his brother-in-law, Kole Heckendorf, was in the home in a bedroom upstairs when an explosion caught his attention.
Heckendorf escaped out of the window and he reportedly told Hille, “’There was just flames, with smoke.”
Another witness reportedly saw a bigger plane go by to head toward an airport before the small plane was seen. The witness said the plane began to nose-dive straight toward the ground.
Hille had left his home ten minutes before the crash with a friend, but was called back when a neighbor informed him what happened.
