The mother of the felon, whose handsome mug shot went viral on Friday after the Stockton Police Department posted it to their Facebook, has started a fundraiser to pay for his defense.

As previously reported, 30-year-old Jeremy Meeks found himself the center of attention online after his mug shot was posted online.

Some found themselves quite entranced by the photo of Meeks, who was arrested for illegally possessing firearms and alleged gang activity, with one woman writing, "He needs to be a model. I would buy whatever he's selling." Another jokingly said, "He didn't know any different. I could turn him into a 'model' citizen."

Seizing an opportunity, Meeks' mother Katherine Angier took to GoFundMe in the hopes of raising funds for his legal defense. She is hoping the fundraiser will raise $25,000, but so far has only racked up a little over $1,000.

She wrote that Meeks was stereotyped due to "old tattoos" and that he has "no gang affiliations as per two of the charges." Angier added that her son was only on his way to work when he was arrested and that he needs the money "to get a fair trial or else he'll be railroaded."
