20th Century Fox has announced a new title and unveiled a plot synopsis for the upcoming Frankenstein prequel starring Daniel Radcliffe.
According to HitFix , the new film will be titled Victor Frankenstein, and will use Mary Shelly’s classic novel as inspiration but while putting a twist on the story.
The film will be an origin story told from the perspective of Igor(Daniel Radcliffe), Dr. Frankenstein’s assistant, with Frankenstein himself being played by James McAvoy.
According to the new synopsis, the film will show us the “troubled young assistant’s dark origins,” and explore how Igor became witness to the emergence of the Frankenstein we know from the original film and novel.
It remains unclear if this prequel will actually feature the classic Frankenstein monster, or if it will merely hint at the fact that the doctor will eventually go on to create the monster in the original story.
This news comes a few months after the latest film to feature the Frankenstein character, I, Frankenstein, was a failure at the box office, making only $19 million domestically on a $65 million budget, according to Forbes.
Victor Frankenstein will be directed by Paul McGuigan and released in October 2015.
