Fans of Jason Bourne will now have to wait until July 2016 to see the next installment in the Bourne franchise. Universal Pictures had planned on releasing the next Bourne film in Aug 14, 2015 but have now pushed that date back to July 15, 2016.

Variety reported that the film will star Jeremy Renner returning to his role in the franchise and will be directed by Justin Lin.

The last movie in the Bourne franchise, The Bourne Legacy, grossed more than $275 million worldwide at the box office. Matt Damon starred as Jason Bourne in the first three movies from 2002 to 2007, HitFix added.

The studio had only recently given the job of writing the script to Andrew Baldwin, which resulted in no production date being set for the film. Production will start following the completion of the script by Baldwin.

Frank Marshall will be returning to produce the film along with Jeffrey Weiner and Ben Smith for Captivate Entertainment. Along with returning to the directors chair, Lin will also be featured as producer under his Perfect Storm Entertainment company.
